Guam Preservation Trust will be the main host for the 3rd Pacific Preservation Summit with the theme of ONRA (Oral Narratives Recalled and Appreciated).

This summit builds on the success of the 1st and 2nd Pacific Preservation Summits that GPT hosted in 2018 and 2022 respectively, which covered themes of Historic Preservation throughout the Western Pacific Islands, with the most recent Summit focusing on using technology to preserve what Pacific Islanders hold sacred to be transmitted to the next generation.

The 3rd summit will focus on the value of Oral Histories and its importance in preserving our cultural heritage. This theme is also aligned with GPT’s enabling legislation which mandates the Trust to also focus on Ethnography and the oral history of Guam. It is further stressed as needed by the community as indicated in GPT’s Strategic Plan for 2023-2027.

This 3rd Summit will fulfill various portions GPT’s 5 year of the strategic plan as well as be the final stage of GPT’s Appreciative Inquiry Method by delivering the discovery and dream ideas from Guam’s heritage stakeholders and thus remaining a community driven project who in term are the primary beneficiaries of the project.
